AI made translation cheap. The hard part was knowing what architecture to keep.
The author implemented Simplified Chinese for Codenames AI after reader interest, finding AI translation generation fast but validation architecture the real challenge. Treating substring overlaps (水 inside 水星) as fatal build errors degraded naturalness, so overlaps became reviewable while exact duplicates stayed fatal; translation choices like ROCK→岩石 (stone) over 摇滚 (music) and SPRING→春 (season) over 弹簧 (metal) were product calls requiring human judgment, not lint results.
